Biography

Up-Lift came into being in the year 2007.

It was believed by some that each member of the band spontaneously formed from the shed follicles of the bassist of the band, including the bassist 'Games' himself. This has been found to be complete tripe.

Nobody truly knows from where the singer 'Wayno' came; I think he spawned from the foetus of a witchcraft practicing hermaphrodite…. The guitarist .‘Dixon’ simply is. And the drummer 'Stix’ came free with an internet ordered gimp suit. Well as for me, your debatably sane author and bassist, I was born from an ephemerol junkie.

But of course this is all surreal drivel.

Now for the real story of Up-Lift:

We started our musical journey in 2007. However, we had a slightly different line-up then. We had no one main singer in the band and our drummer was an old schoolmate whom we (the guitarist: Dixon and bassist: Games - the 2 original members) met at school… a bit ago.

After the disaster that was our first gig, we realised that we could do with a singer/front man who could strut his stuff and leave us to play our instruments. Accordingly, we put an advert on the interweb; people replied, we auditioned them, and then we chose. That is how we got Wayno after he blew us away in a pub car park.

From then we gigged loads, and it was good. However, after a good few months we decided to part with our then drummer and look for a new one who would have a visible zeal for music. In a similar way we auditioned, and eventually got our now drummer: Stix.

So here we are now, gigging, making fantastic music, having the best times of our lives. Come to our gigs you will certainly enjoy our unique sound and presence. From the powerful yet soulful singing of Wayne Franklin, to the epic and magical guitar playing of Richard Dixon, from the rhythmic and melodic basslines of James Roberts to the intricate and enthralling drumbeats of Kevin Clark; we combine our ideas and influences to make some of the most original sounding pieces of music out there. We say that we play Alternative Rock, but that’s too general a term to get our style across to you. There’re elements of indie, metal, classic rock, and prog rock in there. We just make whatever sounds good to us regardless of what genre it is.

We’ve done a bunch of gigs at top venues such as: the Castle in Oldham, the Cavern Club in Liverpool and the Academy in Manchester; and each timed wowed the crowd.

We wouldn’t be where we are though without the help from a few dudes, so we’d give a shout out to Graham North for doing pretty much all of the band photography; Nathan Roberts, a.k.a. cube82 for designing our CDs and gig posters; and the Landfolk at the White Hart on Hollins Rd for letting us practice in there wonderful establishment.

Well, we hope to see all of you at our future gigs having a whale of a time!

Peace Out
